Additional charges in fatal collision

BLIND RIVER – On February 13, 2014, at 6:50 a.m. a collision between a motor vehicle and transport truck on Highway 17, Blind River, resulted in the death of David DENNIE, 36, of Blind River.

As a result of the ongoing investigation and additional information received, the driver, Gary TYSKA, 61, of Thunder Bay has been charged with:

  • Causing Death by Criminal Negligence as per s. 220(b) of the Criminal Code;
  • Careless Driving as per s. 130 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • Fail to enter defect in daily inspection report as per s. 107(8)(a) of the HTA; and
  • Fail to report defect to operator as per s. 107(8)(b) of the HTA.

Additionally, ABI Trucking of Thunder Bay was charged with ‘Fail to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly’ as per s. 107(4)(b) of the HTA.

The driver is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 3, 2014 in Blind River. 

The investigation is continuing.
