A coroner's inquest into the canoe-trip deaths of Megan Mitchell and Erica Auclair Mitchell last spring was halted for at least two hours this afternoon after questions arose about the authorship of a handwritten permission slip allowing Megan Mitchell to participate.

The inquest was adjourned to 2 p.m., while lawyers deliberated on how to proceed given the surprising disclosure.
