The ice bridge connecting Milford Haven, Ontario and Drummond Island, Michigan will be destroyed this Saturday as the Canadian Coast Guard's biggest icebreaker, the Griffon (shown), prepares the North Channel for the 2003 shipping season.

The following statement was released this afternoon by the United States Coast Guard:

***************************************************************** Coast Guard prepares the North Channel for commercial shipping traffic

SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. – On April 12, 2003 the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Griffon will transit the North Channel from St George’s Bay to Tenby Bay, Potagannissing Bay and the St Mary’s River.

The ice bridge connecting Milford Haven, Ont. and Drummond Island, MI will be destroyed.

All recreational users of the ice are reminded to stay clear of shipping channels and be aware of icebreaker presence and changing ice conditions.
