The Community Development Corporation of Sault Ste. Marie and Area has secured $90,000 in federal relief funding to assist non-profit organizations and community partners with small projects and activities that aid them in their recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligible applicants include First Nations, municipalities, unincorporated communities, economic development corporations or other non-profit organizations operating within CDC boundaries, which includes Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area.

“We’re very, very, happy about it,” said local CDC executive director Dan Friyia.

Much of the work CDC does is with the private sector. "But we do more and more interact with the social sector and become more aware of their struggles that they have, just like a regular business, to keep their doors open,” he said.

“We recognize the great work that they do, so if we can help in a small way, it makes us feel very good about that side of our business.”

The deadline for applications is March 2022. Eligibility requirements, program criteria and a downloadable application can be found on the local CDC website, or by contacting Glenn Adams at (705)942-9000 or via email at [email protected]

The local community development corporation has supplied $1.4 million in loans to 30 local businesses and maintained 88 jobs during COVID-related shutdowns.
