************************* PCC North Bay reaches a call for service milestone

NORTH BAY, ON - Since the amalgamation of four district communications centres in 1997, the Provincial Communication Centre (PCC) North Bay has grown to over 110 employees, and this week, one of those emergency operators will answer the PCC North Bay’s seven-millionth call.

Emergency operators are most often the first point of contact when police, fire or medical assistance is required.

These skilled individuals are trained to handle highly charged situations - dealing with a full range of human emotion.

They provide a crucial link from those in need of assistance to the emergency personnel who respond to their call for assistance.

By responding calmly to distressed callers, operators are able to extract crucial information that saves seconds in an emergency situation.

Beyond the scope of emergency calls, the PCC communicators answer and redirect administrative calls from the public.

Many of the phone calls for 38 North East Region detachment work locations and North East Region Headquarters filter through the PCC.

“Our role is critical to police service delivery and I am very proud to work alongside these skilled emergency operators. They are a vital communication link whom we could not function without,” states Inspector Guy Faucher, Commander - PCC North Bay. “Responding to the call number 7,000,0000 will be a special moment but not near as important as a call where a life is saved.”

A career as an emergency operator is challenging and fast paced.

Operators utilize communications terminals and peripheral computerized equipment to dispatch emergency vehicles in response to emergency/urgent situations within a prescribed area of the province 24/7/365.
