50/50 jackpot winner second member of her family to win big prize

Sault Ste. Marie resident Linda Reid took home $107,067.50 in the Sept. 30 Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) 50/50 draw.

This isn't the first SAHF 50/50 draw win by the family – Reid's niece Robin won the jackpot in November 2020.

Reid and her husband plan to use a portion of the winnings to take a cruise, she said in a news release issued by SAHF.

"We’re definitely looking at a Hawaiian cruise – that’s been on our bucket list since we retired 19 years ago," she said. "We’re also planning to contribute to some charities, and to give some to the kids.”

On Sept. 30, Linda Reid of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. won a $107,067.50 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) September 50/50 draw. Her lucky number (SP-9036229) was drawn electronically, and she was contacted immediately.

Linda was shocked by the news, and had the SAHF team repeat the amount she’d won a few times before it truly sank in. When asked how she planned to use her winnings, Linda shared the plans she and her husband Randy had for the prize: “We love cruising! We’re definitely looking at a Hawaiian cruise – that’s been on our bucket list since we retired 19 years ago. We’re also planning to contribute to some charities, and to give some to the kids.”
Linda isn’t the first Reid family member to win – her niece, Robin, won SAHF 50/50 in November of 2020. “So many people we know, when they’ve found out we won, have been saying ‘oh, I need to start getting those tickets, too’,” Linda shared.

Linda wasn’t the only local winner in September! Congratulations are also in order for last month’s $10,000 early bird winners – who were all from the Sault Ste. Marie area! Winners included: David Elson (SP-7137679) of Goulais River on Sept. 9; Brenda Kent (SP-1781862) of Sault Ste. Marie on Sept. 16; and Susanne Kesten-Hofmann (SP-1118021) of Aweres Twp on Sept. 23.

Tickets for SAHF’s October 50/50 draw are on sale now online. You can also buy tickets in person at the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Office (750 Great Northern Rd.) from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday. Tickets are 10 for $10; 60 for $20; 200 for $40; or 750 for $75. Ticket buyers must be 18 years of age or older and in the province of Ontario to play.

This month, there are even more chances to win with eight early bird draws, plus the grand prize at the end of the month! Winning Wednesdays kick off after Thanksgiving with 5 x $1,000 prizes drawn Oct. 12, 2 x $2,500 on Oct. 19, and a $5,000 prize on Oct. 26.
