48,402 more vehicles crossed the International Bridge this year

That's an increase of 3.7 per cent over 2017

The International Bridge Administration announced today that one-way traffic crossings for the calendar year to date is 1,349,213. This represents an increase of 3.7 per cent, or 48,402 more crossings than 2017.

Sault Ste. Marie traffic crossings for the month of November 2018 totalled 103,728, representing a decrease of 3.5 per cent, a difference of 3,739 crossings compared to November 2017.

Bridge revenue is stable at $6.35 million, which is 3.7 per cent above the 2017 year to date earned toll revenue. Commercial traffic at Nov. 30 represents 6.3 per cent of bridge crossings traffic and 38 per cent of total earned toll revenue.

An analysis of traffic statistics for the month reveals the following:

The International Bridge self-funds with toll revenue all operational costs. Operational costs include the bridge structure, maintenance facilities, the Bridge Authority toll plaza, and building maintenance and support costs for the Canada Border Services Agency facility.

The bridge has processed 101 million bridge crossings since 1962.
