40 cm of snow possible north of Sault by Monday

Snow squalls are expected to develop tonight, bringing up to 40 cm of snow to the area north of Sault Ste Marie by Monday, Environment Canada said. 

Environment Canada also warns that surfaces like highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may be hard to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Visibility may be reduced during heavy snow; road closures are also possible.

Snowfall is expected to begin this evening and end on Monday.

Snow squall watch in effect for:

  • Agawa - Lake Superior Park
  • Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay

Snow squalls are expected to develop this evening.

Hazard:
Local snowfall accumulations of 20 to 40 cm by Monday.

Timing:
This evening through Monday.

Discussion:
Locally heavy flurries and snow squalls are forecast to develop this evening in the wake of a strong cold front. These flurries and snow squalls will last through Monday before gradually tapering to flurries on Monday.

Impacts:

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Road closures are possible. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
