Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) today issued a third-quarter (Oct. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2018) non-tax gaming revenue payment of $349,945 to the City of Sault Ste. Marie for hosting Gateway Casinos – Sault Ste. Marie.

So far, during OLG’s fiscal year (April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019), Sault Ste. Marie has received $1,141,372.

Since May 1999, Sault Ste. Marie has received more than $29.6 million in non-tax gaming revenue.

“OLG provides municipal partners and local charities with significant funds to enable investments in communities across the province. The people of Ontario benefit through key public services like health care, education and community infrastructure,” said Ross Romano, MPP for Sault Ste. Marie.

These payments are made under an equitable formula in the Municipality Contribution Agreement that determines the funds municipalities receive for hosting a gaming facility and are based on a graduated scale of gaming revenue that is consistent across all sites in Ontario.

At more than $2.49 billion annually, OLG provides the Ontario government with its largest source of non-tax revenue.

OLG is a crown agency that develops world-class gaming entertainment for the Province of Ontario. Acting in a socially responsible way, OLG conducts and manages land-based gaming facilities; the sale of province-wide lottery games; PlayOLG Internet gaming; and the delivery of bingo and other electronic gaming products at Charitable Gaming Centres.

OLG is also helping to build a more sustainable horse racing industry in Ontario. Since 1975, OLG has provided nearly $47 billion to the people and Province of Ontario to support key government priorities like health care; the treatment, prevention and research of problem gambling; and support for amateur athletes. Each year, proceeds from OLG’s operations also support host communities, Ontario First Nations, lottery retailers and local charities across the province.
