Winds gusting to almost 100 kilometres an hour closed the Mackinac Bridge for several hours yesterday.
A 31-car pileup occurred in whiteout conditions just north of the bridge on Interstate 75, Associated Press reports.
The bridge re-opened at 3:30 p.m. yesterday.
Our photo shows a webcam view of the bridge from St. Ignace at 10:20 a.m. this morning.
State police reported that 19 cars piled up around 1 p.m. on the southbound I-75 in St. Ignace, just north of the bridge.
A dozen other cars crashed nearby a few minutes later.
No life-threatening injuries were reported, but several people were taken to hospital.
Also yesterday, winds and heavy snow caused the closure of a 30-mile stretch of Michigan Highway 28 northwest of the bridge.
