Israeli media are reporting this afternoon that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has been taken to hospital after suffering a minor stroke. Sharon is in stable condition after briefly losing consciousness on Sunday.

Israeli media are reporting this afternoon that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has been taken to hospital after suffering a minor stroke.

Sharon is in stable condition after briefly losing consciousness on Sunday.

His condition is not considered life-threatening.

"The prime minister is conscious. He is undergoing tests. His condition is stable," said Professor Shmuel Shapira, director of Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital.
