But 18-year-old Kathleen Anderson from Holy Angels Adult Learning Centre was one of the first contestants to take the stage today as local Northern Idol auditions got underway at the Lone Star Cafe.

Kathleen had lots of competition here in the Sault and we've posted a photo gallery of some of her fellow participants below.

Winner of the Sault Ste. Marie competition will be announced next Wednesday on the 6 p.m. news on MCTV.

Four finalists from competitions in the Sault, Sudbury, North Bay and Timmins, and one wild-card contestant will compete for the Northern Idol title in Sudbury on MArch 28.

The winner will travel to Winnipeg in early April for a guaranteed audition before the Canadian Idol judges.
