******************** OPP charge 13-year-old male in fatal fire investigation

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) - Officers from East Algoma here arrested and charged a 13-year-old male from Elliot Lake with two counts of second degree murder.

The charges are in relation to a fatal house fire where two people lost their lives.

The young person who was arrested cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act was arrested yesterday. (July 22, 2005)

The investigation revealed that on July 19, 2005 at 12:07 a.m., the Elliot Lake Fire Service and the OPP responded to a fire call at 11 Holt Place in Elliot Lake.

The raised duplex at this location sustained major structural damage and the contents were destroyed in the fire.

Further investigation resulted in the discovery of two bodies in the house.

Deceased are Douglas Jacobs (79) and Helen Louise Jacobs (73) both of Elliot Lake.

The 13-year-old male remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Sault Ste. Marie on Monday July 25, 2005.

The investigation is continuing by officers from East Algoma under the direction of Detective Inspector Paul Beesley, of the Criminal Investigation Branch.
