11 new fires in the area (updated with photo)

Please note: Forest Fire Situation updates will be issued Mondays and Thursdays. Daily advisories will commence when forest fire activity warrants.

New Fires

As of Friday, May 30, 11 new fires were confirmed in Haliburton, North Bay, Sudbury, Timmins and Wawa Districts.

• Timmins 1 was confirmed on May 30 and is out at 0.2 hectares.
• On May 31, three fires were confirmed.
• North Bay 3 is out at 0.1 hectares.
• Timmins 2 is out at 1.4 hectares.
• Wawa 1 is being held at 3.4 hectares and is located west of Missinaibi Lake.
• On June 1, six fires were confirmed.
• Parry Sound 1 is out at 0.1 hectares.
• Parry Sound 2 is out at 0.1 hectares.
• Sudbury 9 is out at 0.2 hectares.
• Sudbury 10 is out at 0.1 hectares.
• Kirkland Lake 3 is being held at 10.5 hectares and is located south of Esker Lakes Provincial Park.
• Kirkland Lake 4 is out at 0.1 hectares.

No issues are anticipated with the active fires.

Fire Hazard

The fire hazard is low to moderate throughout the region and will continue to drop over the next few days.

Varying amounts of rain and precipitation are in the forecast across the province, keeping the expected number of fire arrivals to a minimum.

Regional Synopsis

Twenty-eight fires have been confirmed in the Northeast Region this season to date, with a total of 90 hectares of land burnt.

Did you know? About 200,000 hectares of forest are burned each year and forest fires can cost millions of dollars to put out. Often, unattended campfires are the cause.

If you're going camping and plan to have a campfire, please ensure you build a safe campfire.

Keep your campfire small, have water nearby and never leave it unattended. 

Once you are finished, make sure your campfire is completely extinguished.

Under the Forest Fires Prevention Act (FFPA), if you start a wildfire, you could be held liable for the costs of suppressing the fire.
