100th anniversary of WWI end credited for successful poppy campaign

The 2018 Poppy Campaign has come to a close and Branch 25 is pleased to announce that they have had a record-breaking year for donations. Currently the total sits at $86,415, with money still coming in which will boost that total in the following days.

One of the reasons for the higher amount is this was the 100th Anniversary of the end of WWI and the amount of publicity the milestone received leading up to Remembrance Day made people more aware.

There were also some larger donations made by individuals, businesses, and organizations that contributed to this years’ total. 

Branch 25 would like to thank the people of Sault Ste. Marie & surrounding area for their generosity during the campaign. Saultites have always given to the Poppy campaign & Branch 25 would like to extend their appreciation to those people. Money raised from the campaign helps our Veterans, hospitals, health centres, and cadet units to name a few.

A big thank you to all those who volunteered during the campaign. From the taggers, the drivers, poppy room staff, Air Army & Sea Cadets, & all the other volunteers who gave of their time to make this year such a success. We couldn’t have done it without you!  

The Branch would like all Veterans to know if they need assistance they can contact the Branch & speak to the local Service Officer. These Veterans do not have to be Legion members. A Veteran is someone who has served in or who is currently serving in the Canadian Forces or Her Majesty’s Forces including Regular or Reserve. There are a number of other categories which constitutes a Veteran. Please contact the Legion’s Service Officer at 705.945.8721 to see if you or someone you know qualifies.
