VIDEO: If you build it, they will strum

Local luthiers congregate at Case's Music

Local guitar and accessory makers spent time at Case's Music earlier this week to talk shop and trade ideas.

“They’re here to showcase what they build and the cool stuff they make,” said Jake Rendell from Case’s Music on Wednesday, adding that it’s not the store’s typical style of event.

“I’m absolutely hoping we can continue to do this every year,” he said.

Jon Uebele, from Jubilee Guitars, called it a fantastic day.

“There’s so many people here. We’re all completely different . . . I like working with people to design the build,” he said.

Uebele said for him the important thing is he doesn’t want to copy other guitars. Instead, he tries to come up with something original.

Don Siltanen, from Siltanen Guitars, is inspired by Fenders and Gibsons, but he likes to add “stuff you wish they made.”

“The best part of the process is when . . . you give the guitar to someone else and let them play it. You essentially see that guitar through someone else's eyes. That's the fun part – the really cool part,” he said.
