VIDEO: Cedar Leaf Fabrics open for business

New downtown enterprise is a boutique textile space

Mana Goodfellow, of Soup Witch fame, has unveiled her latest endeavour, a new textile shop in the downtown core.

Goodfellow has been sewing since she was eight-years-old. She acquired her passion from studying the craft with her grandmother during babysitting visits. Once old enough she purchased her own sewing machine.

As a young adult, Goodfellow spent some time down south where she joined workshops on sewing. It was there that she feels she cut her teeth in the art form.

Upon returning to the Sault, she noticed a lack of such spaces and took matters into her own hands.

Cedar Leaf Fabrics aims to be a boutique textile space, bringing in fresh new textiles for a limited time on a revolving basis.

Keeping this fresh and fun is a major focus for Goodfellow.

"In talking to a lot of local artisans I learned many are sourcing their fabrics on line," says Goodfellow, who hopes her new location will be able to offer a bit of  what's missing in our community.

The new space will offer fabrics, machines available to the public, as well as the space to utilize them. For the newcomer, classes and workshops will be aimed at getting you started on your own sewing journey.
