A dozen comedians in one place equals one heck of a good time. The public is invited to the 2018 Dave Broadfoot Awards Luncheon. Part of the WTF Comedy Festival lineup, the event is taking place at the Machine Shop on Friday, June 8 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The late Dave Broadfoot, known as the father of stand-up comedy in Canada, entertained audiences live and on television as an integral part of the Royal Canadian Air Farce. The awards ceremony named in his honour has Air Farce members present the Broadfoot Award for Comedic Genius.

This year’s winner is Luba Goy, an actress, comedian and longtime Air Farce cast member. Past recipients include: Ron James, Russell Peters, Robin Duke, Mary Walsh, Mike MacDonald, Colin Mochrie, Jeremy Hotz, Irwin Barker and Jayne Eastwood.

The Roger Abbott Award for breakout artist of the year will also be presented at the 2018 Broadfoot Awards Luncheon. This year’s winner is K. Trevor Wilson, a comedian, writer and actor who’s best known as the character Squirrely Dan in the CraveTV series Letterkenny.

The 2018 Broadfoot Awards Luncheon is being hosted by Jessica Holmes, an Air Farce favourite who has opened for comedy giants such as Ellen DeGeneres, Jerry Seinfeld and Oprah Winfrey. Also present will be:

  • Don Ferguson, an actor, writer, producer and original cast member of the Royal Canadian Air Farce;
  • John Catucci and David Mesiano, known as the musical comedy duo The Doo Wops;
  • Robin Duke, Jayne Eastwood, Kathryn Greenwood and Theresa Pavlinek from the sketch comedy troupe Women Fully Clothed;
  • Stand-up comics Kenny Robinson and Darren Frost and;
  • David Merry, one of Canada’s premier comic magicians with a 30+ year history of amazing audiences across the globe.

Along with the Dave Broadfoot Awards Luncheon, the WTF Comedy Festival features the following signature events:

  • Laughter Yoga Workshop at Sault College (June 5);
  • Celebrity Jokers’ Poker Tournament at Gateway Casino Sault Ste. Marie (June 7);
  • Russell Peters Deported World Tour headline show at the Essar Centre (June 8);
  • Late-night performances at Soo Blaster (June 8) and the Canadian Night Club (June 9);
  • All-star Variety Show at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre (June 9); and
  • Murder on the Agawa Express, a comedy murder mystery aboard the fabled Agawa Canyon Train Tour (June 9).
