VIDEO: No parade? No problem for these local dancers

Soo Dance Unlimited wants to spread some cheer despite no Santa Claus Parade this year

Staff, instructors and students at Soo Dance Unlimited (SDU) have put together a video to help make the holiday season a little merrier and a little brighter.

For the past seven years since relocating to the downtown core, SDU has taken part in the annual Santa Claus Parade, said SDU executive assistant Lauren Kinney in an email to SooToday.

"This event allowed our studio to come together, all ages and levels, to celebrate the season with our community," she explained. "Needless to say, we were all disappointed when we were informed the Parade would be cancelled."

In an effort to turn lemons into lemonade, Kinney approached SDU owner Christine Cloutier with the idea of hosting safe, stationary "studio wide parade of sorts" and share the video with the community.

"Our staff all contributed choreography, and with a bit of planning and patience we were able to showcase our students, and renew some holiday cheer," said Kinney. "Our own resident teacher, Nicole Beaton, did the incredible editing to create the final piece."

"We shared this video with you (and with our friends at Rotary) to show how our students and staff are finding ways to continue our students' favourite traditions, even if it may look a little different."
