NEWS RELEASE

SILVERLEAF WRITERS GUILD

*************************
The Silverleaf Writers Guild is happy to announce the opening of the Northern Ontario Summer Writing Contest.

This literary contest, open to all Northern Ontario residents 18 years or older, includes poetry, fiction and nonfiction categories.

The theme of the contest is Northern Ontario Perspectives. While the submitted poems, stories and essays are not expected to be set in or be about northern Ontario, the Silverleaf Writers Guild is looking for characters and situations viewed through a northern Ontario lens.

Judging will be completed by northern Ontario writers and avid readers, but their identities will be kept confidential to ensure no attempts are made to influence the judging.

Entries will be anonymous, which means the judges will not know who has written each entry until after the final decisions have been made.

The Silverleaf Writers Guild is making every attempt to ensure a diverse judging panel.

The Silverleaf Writers Guild will not be accepting entries until Aug. 1, 2017 to encourage writers to take their time crafting excellent poetry and prose. The deadline to submit for the contest will be Sept. 3, 2017 at 11:59 p.m.

The entry fee for the contest is $30 for the first entry and $10 for additional entries. Writers can submit one entry per category.

Part of the entry fee goes towards giving all entrants a six-month membership to the guild. The remainder of the entry fee goes towards administration and prizes. The full prize list is still being finalized.

Full rules and regulations for the Northern Ontario Summer Writing contest, as well as the benefits of membership, are available at www.silverleafwriters.com.
