Summer Arts Festival kicks off Tuesday at new location

SAULT SUMMER ARTS FESTIVAL

The 44th Annual Sault Summer Arts Festival opens at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, in a new site: Lake Superior State University. 

The exhibitors will be located on the lawn just north of the Cisler Center, overlooking Canada and the International Bridge. Festival goers will find more and better parking than they have ever had, along with excellent handicap accessibility. 

The stage is located right by the site so people can enjoy the music and entertainment as they shop. 

A list of vendors and an entertainment schedule follows. 

The U.S. Band of Mid-America’s “Starlifter” pop combo will give a free concert at 6 p.m. on the festival stage.

The Sault Summer Arts Festival is an annual, juried show and sale of fine arts and crafts, exhibited by the artists themselves. 

Food vendors will be there as well, with pulled pork and brats, kettle corn, corn on the cob, roasted nuts and maple syrup and candy. 

Festival hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Entertainment begins at noon, with singer/songwriter Archie Reno on stage until 12:50, singer/songwriter Al Seymour performing from 1 to 1:50 p.m. and Poets Corner with Frank Blisset, Renee Dreiling and others on stage until Starlifters begin setting up at 3 p.m. 

The Starlifters concert of popular music begins at 6 p.m. and runs, without intermission, until 7:30 p.m.

The festival is held rain or shine, but the Starlifters concert has a rain site: the LSSU Arts Center Auditorium.

Everybody is welcome! 

Both festival and entertainment are free of charge, brought to you as a public service by the Sault Area Arts Council and Lake Superior State University. 

The Starlifters come courtesy of the United States Air Force and are a part of the U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America.
