Critics have compared them to Radiohead, their first full-length CD took the Canadian Indie charts by storm, and they have already developed a die-hard following. Pilate (pronounced Pilot) will be playing at the Canadian Night Club on Friday, October 29th.

Pilate was formed by New Zealand-born lead singer and lyricist Todd Clark while he was living in Toronto. A graduate of the University of Western's Music Program, Clark began looking for other musicians whose playing would compliment his unique and highly-trained vocal approach.

After finding Ruby Bumrah (a bass player who is also accomplished on viola and violin), the pieces began to fall into place. Bumrah brought fellow OCAD student, guitarist Chris Greenough into the fold, who in turn invited drummer Bill Keeley to join.

Pilate released a decidedly, "do-it-yourself" EP entitled, For All That’s Given Wasted. The EP would quickly sell-out and the band began the jewel of the Toronto scene.

With a blistering set that earned them "Best Unsigned Band" at the 2002 NXNE festival in Toronto, and support shows with the likes of Sam Roberts, Matthew Good and Big Wreck's Ian Thornley, Pilate were quickly signed to MapleMusic Recordings and recorded their full-length CD.

Hailed by critics as both a "melancholic" and "mysterious" masterpiece, Caught By The Window and its most notable single, "Into Your Hideout," Pilate is a band that is poised to break big worldwide. With a follow-up CD in the works, this Canadian band is certainly on the "most watched" list for many critics.

Pilate, with supporting acts Memory Bank (featuring Sault boys Ryan Gassi, Craig Browne and Frank Guidoccio) and Boy, will be performing on Friday, October 29th (doors open at 10 pm) at the Canadian Night Club. The show is open to ages 19+. $10 at the door.
