Spring powwow happens this weekend at Rankin Arena

The Nogdawindamin Family and Community Services’ Spring Pow Wow happens this weekend at the Rankin Arena.

Grand Entry will begin at noon on Saturday, and the community feast begins at 6 p.m.

Anyone wishing to participate as a dancer, drummer or vendor is encouraged to fill out the registration form available here.

Nogdawindamin Family and Community Services Anishnabe Aadziwin team wish to invite community members from the Bawating/Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area to our Spring Pow Wow on May 28, 2022.

This spring, the theme of our pow wow is Shki Maajtaang Nikeyaa Akiing, which in Anishnabemowin means "New beginnings in our part of the land."

Our Grand Entry will begin at 12 p.m. at the Rankin Arena, Batchewana First Nation
Host Drum: Snack Island
Head Dancers: Waboose (Kianna) White and Miisheen-Meegwan Shawanda
JR Head Dancers: Navaeh Pine and Wiingash Shawana
Head Elder: Barbara Nolan
Co-emcees: Darren McGregor and Darrell Boissoneau
Arena Director: Kevin Syrette

The giveaway will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the community feast at 6 p.m.

"We are excited to see all the smiles, dancers, and vendors next weekend. To feel that good medicine our Gitchi Dawagun/Big Drum brings is a feeling many of us have been longing for since the beginning of the pandemic. We are thrilled to bring the community together, celebrate, honour, and welcome a new season," says Ashley Bell, director of services.
