NEWS RELEASE
NORTHERN LIGHTS FESTIVAL BOREAL
******************************
Northern Lights Festival Boréal will hold the second edition of their winter festival, entitled BLOOM 2, at a variety of downtown Sudbury venues, March 6-7. The programming features a celebratory mix of world music, electronic, folk, rock, hip-hop, pop and beyond – with many artists having roots in different areas of the world. Diversity is at the core of the programming. In this spirit, a diverse selection of Northern Ontario’s most exciting bands, solo artists and DJs will take to the festival stages to move minds and bodies.

Sudbury’s Edouard Landry shapes a folk universe with pop, reggae or rock accents and catchy melodies. His sense of melody and his ease of navigating through musical styles are seductive. He was nominated for Best male performer at the Trille Or Awards Gala (2017), and his albums Pomme Plastique II and L’escalade were nominated for the Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards. A fourth album, Pomme Plastique III, was released in October 2019, to much acclaim. Edouard Landry will have the honour of opening the BLOOM 2 festival, as the first artist performing at the March 6 headline concert. Other artists performing will include: A Tribe Called Red, Lido Pimienta, Terra Lightfoot, and Kayiri.

Lisa Marie Naponse is a singer-songwriter from Atikameksheng Anishinawbek. Her Anishinabe name is Odemin Kwe, meaning "Strawberry Woman". In Anishinabe culture the strawberry is known as the "Heart Berry", nourishing the body, mind and spirit, and connecting emotions. Her music reflects her name; red-chained, heartfelt and passionate. Lisa Marie's sound can be described as Indigenous folk pop. Her silky vocals, beat driven rhythm guitar, and unwavering lyrics, embody the contemporary Anishinabe Kwe (woman). Lisa Marie’s festival performance will be a special one, as the time and location will not be released until the last minute. Festival-goers will be notified via the BLOOM 2 mobile app, social media, and via word-of-mouth as to when and where this intimate performance will take place. The ‘BLOOM 2’ mobile app is currently available in app stores, containing important festival information, and notifications about surprise festival events.

DJ Seith is a turntablist from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. who can be found performing live mixes for crowds, combining hip-hop, rock, funk, soul and pop music together in new and interesting ways, using only two turntables and a crate of vinyl. His attention to detail and ability to engage crowds of all sizes has earned him opening spots for Choclair, DVBBS, Moka Only, and A Tribe Called Red. He has also spearheaded the Soo York City Urban Arts Collective, which is a group of like-minded artists committed to furthering the positive tenets of hip-hop culture through collaboration and inclusiveness. DJ Seith will open up the BLOOM 2 DJ dance party at Zig’s Bar (54 Elgin St.), on Saturday, March 7. Montreal-based, globe-trotting DJ/producer Poirier will close out the party.

The Ape-ettes are an all-girl garage-psych-pop-punk trio from Sudbury. Charming the crowd with their spirited less-is-more approach, the Ape-ettes will have you rocking out in both official languages. The Ape-ettes will open the festival’s rock n’ roll show at The Townehouse Tavern (206 Elgin St.) on Saturday, March 7, sharing the stage with east coast rock sensation Partner.

Jordel Downey a.k.a. Jor’Del Downz is a well-rounded songwriter, proficient in singing, rapping, percussion and beat making. Born and raised in Sudbury, Jor’Del has been honing his musical talents since a young age. As a rapper he has worked with such notable artists as Joell Ortiz, and has opened for Madchild, Nino Bless, Fetty Wap and more. In 2019, Downz reinvented himself and dropped an R&B project called The Getaway, trading in rap bars for sung verses and hooks. He will open up Saturday, March 7’s hip-hop show with Clairmont the Second and Eyeda Sophia at The Asylum (19 Regent St.).

The ‘BLOOM 2’ mobile app is currently available in app stores, with schedule, ticket, and artist information also posted at nlfb.ca/bloom. Full festival passes and show-only tickets are available at advance pricing online. Quantities are limited due to venue capacities. Full festival passes are also available at outlets in Sudbury: Jett Landry Music (Lasalle Blvd.), Old Rock Coffee (Minto St.), and A&J Home Hardware (Bouchard St.).
