Sault Ste. Marie was in Kingston with the rest of Canada last night (7 photos)

The Canadian Nightclub was at capacity for a live screening of The Tragically Hip's last show

It's usually closed on Saturdays but the Canadian Nightclub was at capacity last night for a live screening of what some fear is The Tragically Hip's last concert.

Around 330 people packed the nightclub, many wearing band shirts, some getting emotional, to see the last show of the iconic group’s summer tour in Kingston.

CBC live-streamed the concert and similar viewing parties were held in other cities across Canada.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who attended the concert, perhaps said it best.

“The whole country is here in Kingston tonight! To say thanks, to say goodbye, to celebrate Canada's band,” wrote the PM on a wall that was erected in Kingston for fans to leave messages.

Lead singer Gord Downie was recently diagnosed with brain cancer so the show was almost certainly the very last, opportunity for Canadians to see the group live.

The ‘Hip played three encores and finished the concert off with 'Ahead by a Century'.

Proceeds from t-shirts and ticket sales at the Canadian Nightclub event are going the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research.

Loplops also held a live screening downtown.
