Sault-born musician Eric Brombacher is coming home this holiday season. His band, Eric and The Soo, plays on Saturday, Dec. 22 at Room 21, an intimate venue on top of Low and Slow restaurant at 480 Albert St. W. The concert starts at 10 p.m. Admission is free.

The name Eric and The Soo pays homage to Brombacher’s hometown. His band, which is based in the Greater Toronto Area, recently released its second album, Modern Dystopia. The folk/rock record has been in the top 10 ranking for past month on CFMU radio station in Hamilton while also getting steady airplay on a number of other stations across Canada.

For his hometown concert on Dec. 22, which is also a CD release party for the new album, Brombacher will be joined by local guitar slinger and harmony singer Ted Pruce.

The evening will kick off with a solo performance of Pruce’s special brand of original rock music, followed by the headline show from Eric and The Soo.

“I'm very excited to be coming back to Sault Ste. Marie to celebrate the release of Modern Dystopia with my family and friends,” said Brombacher. “I was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, and it’s where I first learned to make music. Coming home is always special for me, and I look forward to seeing everyone on Dec. 22.”

Released in 2016, Eric and The Soo’s debut album, Small Town Dreamer, featured songs focused on Brombacher’s childhood in Sault Ste. Marie. His follow-up record, Modern Dystopia, which was launched in November 2018 and produced by acclaimed Canadian songwriter Jerry Leger, is a concept album that explores the current social climate and the challenges faced by humankind. The songs touch on various themes – both personal and societal – including isolation, depression, homelessness and conformity.
