You’ve been nominated! Be part of the excitement by starring in the 98th Rotary Community Day Parade presented by Brookfield, which is rolling out the red carpet on Saturday, July 20.

This year’s parade theme is 'Celebrating The Academy Awards, 1929-2019'. The official parade package and application is available for download at www.rotaryfest.com/parade. The parade will begin at the corner of Queen Street East and Church Street, and proceed west down Queen Street East to Gore Street.

“We are looking forward to another exciting, colorful, energy-filled parade, and excited to see the creativity in our community show in the entries and floats” said David K. Marshall, parade marshal.

There are cash prizes to be won in a number of categories: Grand Prize Entry, Best Entry Depicting Theme, Best Non-Professionally Designed Entry, Best Professionally Designed Entry, and Best Kinetic Sculpture.

The “sensory-friendly block” located from Bruce Street to Dennis Street will be returning for this year’s parade. It’s designed for families with children who experience distress dealing with sensory stimulation.

All float entries will be instructed against the use of sirens, air horns, and car horns along this portion of the parade route.

“Many people have sensory sensitivities, including those on the autism spectrum,” explained Jamie Boston, Algoma Autism Foundation Director. “The Sensory friendly block allows for all citizens to enjoy the yearly parade without the worry of sensory related triggers. The Algoma Autism Foundation is so thankful to Rotary for the ongoing progressive partnership.”

The parade is an important part of ROTARYFEST, The Sault’s Summer Festival! Three days of live music, family fun, and great food will fill Clergue/Rowswell Parks from Thursday, July 18 to Saturday, July 20. If you are interested in volunteering, visit www.rotaryfest.com to apply online.
