Sudbury Theatre Centre (STC) has been chosen as a participant in the Ontario Arts Council’s (OAC) Recommender Grants for Theatre Creators program, a program to assist theatre creators in developing new work.

Recommenders are organizations authorized by OAC to receive applications, review them, and make grant recommendations. OAC allocates a budget to each of the participating recommenders.

Writers from northern Ontario or writers working on plays relevant to life in northern Ontario are all encouraged to apply.

Applications are submitted through Nova, OAC’s online grant application system and should include basic information about the project, artistic examples, and support documents. No more than 10-15 pages of the script is required.

The deadline to submit is Jan. 14, 2022.

“I’m extremely happy to be a participant in OAC’s Theatre Creators grant program for the third year,” said STC’s artistic director, John McHenry, in a press release.

“There is a lot of work being created in Northern Ontario and I’m glad we can support local playwrights in this way.”

Previous successful playwrights have received readings and workshops of their new work at STC’s The PlayMine and Pat the Dog Theatre Creation’s PlaySmelter Festival.
