The second instalment of the OH!No music festival is set to go for Sept. 8 and promoter Jamie Vincent says he learned a lot from last year’s inaugural event.

“I lost money last year, but people showed up and had a good time. As a promotor, I feel this festival is kind of a big deal,” he told SooToday.

As the host of an all-day festival set in the middle of nowhere with 18 bands scheduled to play, Vincent says his biggest lesson from last year was time management (and keeping bands on track).

The event is completely organized and operated by a dedicated volunteer team, and the local bands included on the roster are playing for little more than food and a few drinks. Every cent raised from festival ticket and merch sales goes right back into the event. It’s literally ‘the people’s’ festival, Vincent said.

“This is ‘their’ festival, it’s not ‘my’ festival. The reason this can happen is because they’re buying the tickets, they’re buying the shirts. They’re basically funding it,” he explained. “It wouldn’t be able to happen without the people buying tickets, those volunteering to help with the festival, and the local bands taking part.”

“This isn’t a thing where I’m coming out on top making money. Hopefully I can break even this year, but it might take a few years to actually do that,” he continued.

Featured performers for OH!No 2018 include out-of-towners Garbage Face and Cross Dog from Peterborough, Thunder Bay’s Franquilizers and Fat Cop, Beaver Slap from Barrie, Lightmares from Sudbury, and Toronto’s Forest City Aurora. Local acts include Mister, Shae Tull, Jackson Reed, The Elements, A Dire Set Back, Winkstinger, Mik and Steve, Jack Spades, Dynowaves, and Planet Rock.

The festival takes place in Leeburn (at the former little white church location) on Saturday, Sept. 8. Gates open at 11 a.m. and music begins at 12:30 p.m. Camping is available and every camper is responsible for the clean up and removal of their own garbage.

The event is BYOB – glass bottles are not permitted anywhere on OH!No festival grounds. Food, provided by Dryer Fire, will be available for purchase onsite. Other participating vendors include Oosik Records and Samson Books.

Tickets are $35 each and may be purchased at Case’s Music, the Rad Zone or from any local band member. Tickets and merch bundles are also available Thursday evenings until the end of August aboard the MS Norgoma as Dryer Fire hosts its weekly Night Market from 5 to 9 p.m.
