Zonta May speaker event to host Nobel Peace Prize nominee

On Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at the Algoma’s Water Tower Inn, the Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie is hosting their annual speaker event with guest speaker and author, Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish.

Dr. Abulelaish is a Nobel Peace Prize nominee for his work in promoting reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians.

He has written the best-selling book I Shall Not Hate which relates the story of his life as a Palestinian doctor who worked at an Israeli hospital during the Gaza War.

He founded the Daughters for Life Foundation in memory of three of his daughters who were killed by Israeli tank fire during the Gaza War.

The death of his children strengthened his resolve to promote peace in the Middle East.

A Member of the Order of Ontario, Dr. Abuelaish now works at the University of Toronto as an Associate Professor of Global Health.

“We are honoured to host Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish for our fifth annual speaker event. His remarkable story of tragedy and loss and his message of courage and hope is an important one for all of us. This will be a memorable and inspiring evening for everyone,” stated Gayle Manley, president of the Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area.

The Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area is part of an international service organization of women which seeks to advance the status of women worldwide by improving the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women at the global and local levels through service and advocacy.

Tickets for the speaker event are $25 and are available at Athlete’s Foot in the Station Mall, Kwik Kopy, and St. Andrews’s United Church.
