NEWS RELEASE

ALBERTA HOUSE

*************************
SAULT STE MARIE, MI - March is definitely a multi-media month in Alberta House with the work of members of four area art organizations filling both galleries. The Le Sault Artists Guild and the Group of 7+ Rug Hookers are in the Mini Gallery.

The Eastern Upper Peninsula Craftsmen and the Country Spinners and Bridge Shuttlers are in the Olive Craig Gallery. The boundaries are flexible, however, because many of the artists are multi-media and a couple are in all four organizations.

Two dimensional media include paintings, drawings, collages and photographs. The rug hookers display original designs rendered in colorful wools, some framed and on the wall and others serving as floor rugs, mug rugs, pillows, upholstery and wall hangings.

The work of the EUP Craftsmen runs the gamut with the list as long as these artists’ imaginations.

In addition to the media in the other three organizations are such items as musical instruments, a detailed ship replica, iron work, stone carving, jewelry hooked rugs, quilts, hand spun and dyed yarn, hand woven items, photographs and paintings, stone carvings and jewelry.

The Country Spinners and Bridge Shuttlers display hand spun, hand woven and hand dyed articles.  Some of the members even raise sheep, goats or rabbits to provide their raw material and gather plants to make their own dyes.

Probably no show provides more color or more variety than this one.  Some of the exhibit items may be seen in the March “Alberta House News”, a free download on the Sault Area Arts Council website:  www.saultarts.org

The exhibits will be in place Mar. 1 through 31. The public is invited to meet the artists at their reception from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 4.  Alberta House is located at 217 Ferris Street, just south of Portage and across the street from the VFW Hall.

Regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free of charge. For more information e-mail [email protected] or call Alberta House during open hours at 906-635-1312.
