From poutine to paddling, there's something for everyone

There’s plenty to do this coming long weekend to celebrate Canada Day. The following list includes just some of the activities taking place: 

~ Friday, June 29 ~

Sault Ste. Marie Poutine Feast

With more than 50 varieties of poutine available to sample, this four-day event will prove that the iconic Canadian dish is more than just French fries and cheese curds covered in gravy. 

In addition to serving poutine suitable for meat-lovers and vegans alike, the event features live entertainment, games and activities for all ages, and a variety of non-poutine treats. 

It all happens at the Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site and admission is free. 

Sault Ste. Marie’s Poutine Feast schedule:
Friday, June 28 - 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday, June 29 - 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday, June 30 - 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Monday, July 1 - 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

International Bridge Walk

Hosted by the Twin Saults, this annual event takes an easy pace and provides spectacular views of the St. Marys River, the Soo Locks and surrounding area.

The walk steps off from Sault, Mich. at 9:30 a.m. Cyclists are welcome to participate.

One Night For You: Italian Canadian Festival 

The Primavera Banquet Hall presents its 8th annual celebration at the Roberta Bondar Tent Pavilion from 1 p.m. to midnight. 

The event includes a variety of activities, vendors, food and refreshments, and live entertainment including Beatles tribute act, Hard Day’s Night. 

Tickets are available through the Primavera Hall, the Sault Community Box Office in the Station mall, or online. All proceeds go to support Tracey’s Dream. 

~ Monday, July 1 ~ 

Parade of Paddles

Grab your kayaks and canoes and head down to the Sault Ste. Marie Canal for a fun Canada Day event. Red and white decorations are encouraged and participation is free!

Paddler registration begins at 7 a.m.

The Hub Trail Festival 

This annual event hosted on Canada Day by the City of Sault Ste. Marie and the Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority allows participants to ‘walk, ride, or roll’ their way along the HUB trail from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Everyone is welcome -- walkers, cyclists, inline skaters, and anyone with assistive devices and mobility aids. 

Participants are invited to start at any one of the passport stations. At each station, you will receive a stamp on your passport for the section of trail you’ve completed. You can go to one station or visit them all. Keep your eyes open for fun activities, great give-a-ways and more along the way. 

Passports must be returned to the drop-off station under the Algoma Farmers’ Market tent near the Roberta Bondar Park and Tent Pavilion before 2 p.m. in order to be entered into prize draws which take place at 3 p.m. under the Roberta Bondar Tent. Winners must be present to claim prizes. 

Canada Day at the Bondar Pavilion 

Come celebrate Canada’s Birthday at the Roberta Bondar Park and Pavilion. Enjoy family entertainment and children’s activities throughout the day. 

Opening ceremonies begin at 1 p.m. for a day filled with fun events, a mix of performances and entertainment for all to enjoy. The annual fireworks display will begin at dusk.
