NEWS RELEASE
ALGOMA REPERTORY THEATRE
***************************
The spirit of Christmas is coming to the Sault Community Theatre Centre. After a very successful run of Evil Dead the Musical, ART (Algoma Repertory Theatre) isn’t slowing down for the Holiday Season. Dec. 18 - 21 they will be mounting It’s a Wonderful Life: The Radio Play. The beloved Christmas classic comes to life onstage as a 1940s-style radio play.

The show tells the story of George Bailey – a generous and well-meaning man who dreams of adventure, but who has become dispirited and has lost his way. He is overwhelmed by family obligations and a sense of responsibility toward his community. He feels tied down to a company he never had an interest in working for, and a life he never wanted to live. With the help of a loveable angel, Clarence, he is shown what life would be like if he was never born. This show captures the true heart and spirit of the holidays, and will be a treat for young and old.

Directed by Sandra Forsell, with Tracey Hilderley as head foley assisted by Chris Mozarowski and Stephen Gagnon-Ruscio creating the soundscape on piano, this version is staged as a live radio play. That means audience members will get to experience the rare magic of watching 18 actors voice 63 different parts with foley artists creating all of the sound effects live on stage. While emphasis is on sound, the stage will also be a feast for the eyes – decorated as the inside of the 40s era radio studio, with actors in period costumes and makeup.

ART is so grateful to so many generous community members and businesses that help make productions like this possible. It’s a Wonderful Life: the Radio Play is being presented in partnership with Rogers Media – KISS 100.5 as a title sponsor, and their entire season has been generously sponsored by Century 21 Choice Realty.

Our cast comes from all backgrounds and ages, and includes Amanda Moss, Megan Wigmore, Shelley Wright, Elora Nelson, Avery McMillian, Rorie Nelson, Ellie Nirkkola, Christina Foster, Marc Beaudette, Chuck Holgate, Jarrett Mills, Rob McDowell, Matthew Doherty, Jack Potvin, Vernon Bailey, Kevin Collar, William Foster and Andrew Brienesse.
