Local artists featured at this year's Northern Vibe festival

Northern Vibe, an end-of-summer music festival held in Poplar Dale, makes its return this year after the 2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic. The rural three-day event runs this weekend – Friday Aug. 27 through Sunday, Aug. 29.

Northern Vibe’s goal is to celebrate art, music and community while connecting it all to our natural environment. Attendees can camp under the stars for the weekend while meeting new friends and enjoying the nature of northern Ontario along with some good music.

The festival will be held on a large campground, with two stages for live music. There will also be food trucks and a variety of vendors. 

One stage will feature live DJ sets, with the other featuring live bands. Some of the bands include Frightlight, Harvey King and The Grindstone, Dynowaves and Soo Fighters. DJs include Holly Housecat, Jordan Freeman, Tremors, and Sault Ste. Marie’s DJ Manskirt and Mio Rodic. 

To get to the festival from Sault Ste. Marie, turn left onto Highway 638, drive for 30 km then turn left onto Poplardale Road. Drive for 6.4 km and the festival will be on the right. 

Some items you may want to bring include garbage bags, flashlights, warm clothes, and camping gear. Registration and ticket information can be found on the Northern Vibe website. 

You must be 19 years or older to attend the festival. 

Clean North Summer Mulch Giveaway

Aug. 28

Clean North is hosting their summer mulch giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Lemieux Composting on Black Road. You can collect your own Clean North Christmas tree mulch free of charge by bringing your own bins and pitch fork or shovel. Volunteers will be available to help with shovelling and lifting. Make sure to be in line by noon to get your mulch. Staying two metres away from people who do not live with you is required and wearing a mask is recommended.

Inflatable Fun-Day

Aug. 28

Station Mall’s Inflatable Fun-Day has been postponed to this Saturday, Aug. 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You and your family can enjoy the Rugged Warrior Challenge obstacle course and the 27’ high Mt. Rushmore slide, all free of charge. There will also be a chance to win a pair of AirPods Pro and a $250 Station Mall gift card. The event will be held in the east parking lot of the Station Mall. COVID-19 protocols will be in effect. 

Healthy Minds Healthy Art

Aug. 28 

Let’s Talk Mental Health is hosting their first in-person event this Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. at Bellevue Park. It will be a day of painting, chatting, playing games and listening to speeches from community members. Baked goods and drinks will be available for purchase and will go towards mental health funding. Participants are asked to bring their own blanket for social distancing. International Play Music On The Porch Day

Aug. 28

BrianT and the Sinister Hearts will be playing on the balcony above Camera Craft this Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. to celebrate International Play Music On The Porch Day. The band hopes the community will join them or simply enjoy the music while walking by.
