Local actors want to help Saultites 'get in the game'

Actors Trish Rainone and Bobby Del Rio are pleased to announce they will be bringing a special acting workshop to the city of Sault Ste. Marie.

Fresh off their lead roles in the Sault Ste Marie-shot web series My Roommate’s an Escort (co-written and co-created by Rainone), Bobby and Trish are eager to create more training opportunities for new actors in northern Ontario.

“Sault Ste Marie has lots of talent. I was born here, raised here and want to give back to this community that I love,” said Trish Rainone.

“I first experienced the Sault this summer – shooting season two of Escort. I fell in love with the city and the people. I consider myself part of the community now, and I want to help train Sault actors!” said Bobby Del Rio.

Trish and Bobby will be doing a two-day weekend intensive on Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6. Saturday will focus on the craft of acting. Sunday will focus on the business of acting.

Each day will cost $50 to attend, a discount of $75 total to attend both days.

Trish Rainone wants to get Sault Ste. Marie residents in the acting game. The Sault native is teaming up with her My Roommate’s an Escort co-star Bobby Del Rio to stage a two-day acting workshop in the Sault in early October.

Training is offered Oct. 5 and 6 at a location to be announced. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Algoma University graduate is keen to see the television and film industry “build” in the Sault. She also wants to move back to her hometown from Toronto to work “and not have to go elsewhere.”

Day one of training centres on acting craft. The business side of the profession is explored in day two. Tryout techniques for television will be shared with actors with stage experience.

“I was once told, ‘As an actor, it’s your job to audition,’” said Rainone. “’If you’re getting the auditions, you’re in the game.' We’re in the game and we want to help other aspiring actors get in the game, too. It’s a craft and training is essential and very beneficial.”

Cost is $50 for one day or $75 for the weekend. There’s no minimum age for participants.

Participants can bring lunch and a reusable water bottle.

Del Rio stars as Sam in My Roommate’s an Escort, the web series created by Rainone and Katie Uhlmann.

Rainone’s other credits include Campton Manor, One Night Stand and Swearnet: The Movie.

Del Rio’s screen appearances include In Real Life: The Series, A Winter Tale and Blue Murder. Season two launches in late September.
