The Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site is excited to host its second annual Parade of Paddles. The event will feature an early pancake breakfast in the lock and a paddle downriver to the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre and Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site. The goal of the event is to set a new record for the most paddlers at one time inside the lock!

The Sault Canal will once again host the Parade of Paddles on Canada Day to celebrate our great nation. A parade of paddlers will converge in the canal on the morning of July 1. Canoers and kayakers are encouraged to decorate their boats with red and white!

Spectators and participants can enjoy an early morning pancake breakfast on the pancake barge from 7 to 9 a.m. Paddlers are asked to rally at 9:30 a.m. as we start getting the canoes and kayaks in the water. The parade continues down the waterfront to the Canadian Bushplane Museum (experienced paddlers only please) and participants may portage over to the ErmatingerClergue National Historic site for HistoryFest.

Special Paddler’s Packages are available for pre-order through the ErmatingerClergue National Historic Site and include a breakfast option as well as souvenir and box lunch provided by the ErmatingerClergue National Historic Site.

Be sure to check the park website for up-to-date information here.
