Join Entomica in its future home for a fireworks front row seat

Construction is now underway at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre (CBHC) for Entomica Insectarium’s new home. Having outgrown their space inside Mill Market, Entomica Insectarium was hoping to expand their footprint. Meanwhile, the CBHC was looking to add a new attraction to their wide assortment of interactive exhibits. The partnership turned out to be a perfect fit.

Thursday, July 4, Entomica will be holding a fundraising event at the CBHC celebrating their 5th year of operation as Sault Ste. Marie’s only official science centre and their new partnership with CBHC.

At this event, enjoy a live performance by local musical artist Shannon Moan. AlgoRhythms featuring Kelly McGillivray will also be entertaining this event, with a special guest performance by Sarah Fisher. 

Downtown cafe, Shabby Motley Handicraft will be serving up some delicious appetizers, with Outspoken Brewery’s fine array of brewed beverages and a selection of wine to sip on. Peruse the silent auction table while you soak in the CBHC’s new special events venue. We will top off our evening with a front row seat for our American neighbours’ Independence Day fireworks celebration launching off at dusk.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. BYOC (Bring Your Own Cash) is in effect without a working ATM on site.

Since its inception, Entomica, a local not-for-profit corporation, has been cultivating awareness and appreciation for the natural world through dynamic educational experiences for all ages.

Having been the first science centre in Canada permitted to take our insects out into the community allowed us to develop unique outreach programs that have been recognized nationally, in particular, our highly touted Science for Seniors program and experiential learning program for schools. A partnership with Sault College generated the Junior Scientist summer camp three years ago and a collaboration with Eva DeBoer led to the creation of the nature-based therapy program, The Good, The Bad, and The Buggy, focused on improving youth mental health.

Out-reach education programs to schools, colleges, universities and community groups remain a strong focus and a recent agreement with the Algoma District School Board means we’ll be making even more full day visits to local schools.
