2014 Laird Fair this weekend

It's been more than three decades and there's no sign of slowing down.

The North Shore Agricultural Society (NSAS) is preparing to stage its annual Laird Fair and Exhibition this weekend in Laird, and organizers are busy working to ensure that it is another successful year.

The Laird Fair is a three-day fair, which begins Friday night at the Laird Fairgrounds on Lake George Road, about 25 minutes east of Sault Ste. Marie.

NSAS organizers try to promote agriculture yearly at the fair.

They provide urban residents with opportunities to get a taste of country life in several ways, including through horse shows, animal exhibits and demonstrations.

In fact, besides getting a look at what life is like for country folk, people can also get a literal taste of the country at Saturday’s chicken dinner, or by taking a seat at the breakfast tables Saturday and Sunday mornings, or, by savouring a variety of home-made baking.

The fair kicks off Friday night at 7 p.m. with vendors setup on the grounds, a colt starting demonstration, and Wishbone and Thin Ice taking the stage to give a night of entertainment that is full of high energy and solid country/country rock music for all to enjoy!

A free bus ride home will be available for concert goers both Friday night and Saturday night leaving at 1:15 a.m.

For more information, please check us out on Facebook or Twitter, or on our website www.lairdfair.com.

A pancake breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Come out Saturday for special performances by Highway 17 and Border City Band who will highlight the entertainment for the afternoon.

Several activities are set for Saturday, including animal exhibits, horse speed show, the colt starting demonstration continues, an antique tractor pull, activities for the kids, and youth poultry competition, to name just a few.

Our chicken dinner, courtesy of Muio’s, begins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, with more entertainment scheduled for later that night provided by Jus’ Chillin’ and The Cloud Bandits, Bar River’s No.1 rock band for over 15 years, set to light it up all night long at the gazebo.

Activities continue Sunday with a heavy horse pull, the conclusion of the colt starting demonstration, youth poultry competition, dog sports demonstration, and more fun activities for the kids, among other events.

Outdoor vendors will be on-site all weekend long serving up delicious goodies for all attendees, as well as showcasing their unique products for all to see.

Camping is available for the weekend, for more information please contact us at [email protected], on Facebook and Twitter.

It’s going to be an exciting time so please come out to support the 2014 Laird Fair.

We look forward to seeing everyone out again for another great year!
