On Thursday, March 22, 2018, the Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area is bringing Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, Sophia Kruz, to Sault Ste. Marie for a public screening of her recent documentary, Little Stones. This is part of celebrations for the 40 years Zonta has been involved in service projects in our community.

Little Stones weaves together the personal stories of four women artists who dedicate their lives to empowering women and survivors of gender-based violence.

With their unique art forms, the artists express and help eradicate the atrocities of domestic violence, human trafficking, extreme poverty and female genital mutilation.

The film has been screened at numerous film festivals and is the winner of numerous awards including Best Documentary Vail Festival 2017 and Best Foreign Documentary at the 2017 Female Eye Festival. Among future screenings, Sophia Kruz and Little Stones will be a part of United Nations Commission on the Status of Women on March 14 in New York.

“We are very excited to bring this important film and director Sophia Kruz to our community for our 40th anniversary,” states Heather Edwards, president of the Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area. “We have had excellent speakers over the years like Sally Armstrong, Michelle Audette and Margaret Trudeau; Sophia Kruz will be a dynamic addition to that past line-up.”

Little Stones will be screened at The Tech on Thursday, March 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for $10 at Shabby Motley and Outspoken Brewing on Queen Street or through Zonta at [email protected].

Sophia Kruz will be available for a Q and A session after the screening and a social in Santini’s Bistro. Check out the trailer for the film at www.littlestones.org.

Zonta is a global organization of members working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. The Zonta Club of Sault Ste.
