Chuckles and check-raises. Want a chance to play Texas Hold'em with award-winning comedians? The 2019 WTF Festival is bringing the Jokers Poker Tournament back to the event lineup. It’s taking place on Thursday, June 6 at Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie. The shuffle-up-and-deal start time is 6 p.m.

Registration is now open. Space is limited to three tables of 11. Spots can be reserved in-person at Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie or by calling 705-541-5863. The entry fee is $125 plus a $25 administration charge. For details on rules, rebuys, payout structure and other information, visit here.

There will be at least one visiting comedian playing at each table. Participants will have the chance to win additional prizes by knocking them out of the tournament. The stand-ups include:

  • Canadian Comedy Award winner Martha Chaves, an industry veteran known for her two national stand-up specials and multiple appearances at Montreal’s Just For Laughs Comedy Festival;
  • Sean Cullen, an accomplished impressionist, award winning comedian, author and entertainer;
  • The ensemble from Men in Tights, a comedy troupe dubbed the Kings of Shakespearian Improvisation; and
  • David Merry, one of the country’s premier comic magicians who has spent more than 30 years amazing audiences across the globe.

Immediately following the Jokers Poker Tournament, the comedians will take to the stage for a complimentary stand-up show at Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie.

The 2019 WTF Festival is taking place from June 6 to 8. This year’s lineup also includes a Night of Hilarity and Awe variety show, Ryan McFarling’s Imposter: An Evening of Stolen Original Magic Tricks, improv and illusion workshops, David Merry’s Magic Tricks With Household Items, and Sing-A-Long Productions presents Grease. For ticket and other information, visit here.

The WTF Festival was developed last year by Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, a division of the Economic Development Corporation. The event was named Best New Festival for 2018 by Festivals and Events Ontario.

“We are thrilled to be hosting the second annual WTF Jokers Poker Texas Hold'em Tournament this year,” said Vince Vommaro, assistant general manager of Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie. “Last year, we had a sold-out tournament, and the comedians were very funny and interactive with all the participants. There were a lot of laughs had by all. What a great event and, as far as the WTF Festival goes, what a great way to really engage our community to come out and share a few laughs with some really funny characters.”
