Get outside and active with YMC'EH Activity Day

In an effort to make sure the community is keeping their mind, body, and spirit active, the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA is inviting everyone to take part in the YMC’EH Activity Day on July 1. This virtual activity day is open to all members of the public and is suitable for all fitness levels, a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA stated. 

This is an opportunity to set a goal, challenge yourself, and participate in something fun on July 1 Participants will be able to choose their activity. If you know that you can run 5km, challenge yourself to run 6km. If you can walk 5km, challenge yourself to walk 6km. If you can bike 70km, challenge yourself to bike 90km. 

The YMC’EH Activity Day will allow you to get outdoors and be active all while supporting your local community. All proceeds from this event will go towards the Strong Communities Campaign. This campaign focuses on providing access and resources to proven YMCA programs that allows kids, youth, adults, seniors, and families the opportunities to reach their potential and live healthier, happier lives, the release stated. 

Registration is $25 per person or $40 per family of up to four people. Registration can be done online, and family and friends can donate to your personal fundraising page as well. You can register or donate by visiting the event page.

You can walk, run, or bike from July 1 to July 4, with a grand prize draw being held on July 5 for a patio set courtesy of Soo Mill.

4th of July Big Bang Patio Party

The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre is hosting a fireworks watch party on their waterfront patio on Sunday, July 4 starting at 7 p.m. The patio bar will be open from 7 p.m. to 11 pm. Enjoy local beer from Northern Superior Brewing Company, wines or summer coolers. Light snacks will be available for purchase. Reserved seating will be required. A maximum of 6 people will be allowed per table. Parking will be available in the front and in the front apron through the gates. To reserve a table please call 705-254-9521. Social distancing will be required and masks should be worn when not at your table.

Algoma Family Services Foundation Run for Mental Health

The first annual AFS Foundation Run for Mental Health event is currently going on, and individuals can participate in the marathon and half marathon running event anytime between June 26 and July 10. This event promotes awareness and provides much-needed funding for early intervention and prevention programs for infants, children and youth struggling with mental health challenges, a news release issued by the foundation stated. There is no set cost to participate as this is an inaugural event. Participation will be by donation or individuals can choose to raise pledges.
