Galaxy Cinemas opened its doors to movie-goers in Sault Ste. Marie Friday afternoon after being closed due to the province-wide lockdown that went in to effect on Boxing Day.

Judas and the Black Messiah, The Croods: A New Age, The Little Things, Promising Young Woman, Land and Wonder Woman 1984 are all on tap for the weekend into next week, according to general manager Jesse Evans.

“We’re definitely going to have these films right through until Tuesday of this week, and then we’ll re-evaluate on Tuesday for next weekend,” Evans said.

Galaxy Cinemas Sault Ste. Marie is asking people who aren’t feeling well to stay home. The theatre prefers tickets to be obtained through contactless methods of purchase, either through the Cineplex website or mobile app. For those who do not have internet access, Evans says that the self-serve kiosks are available, or staff can assist movie-goers in getting tickets.

“Additionally, we’re requiring that guests wear a mask when attending cinemas to see their film, and we are collecting contact information as per the government guidelines, and we’ll be greeting all of our guests upon entry so we can control the numbers of guests coming in,” he said.

Evans says his staff is excited to get back to work.

"Everyone was just so excited to get back and see the guests, and see some of the familiar faces - in a socially distanced and safe way,” he told SooToday. “We’re all really, really passionate about the movie-going experience and about entertainment, and it’s such a people business we just weren’t living our full lives when we couldn’t be at the theatre.”
