NEWS RELEASE
FISHBOWL FESTIVAL
*************************
The Fishbowl Festival organizing team is excited to announce that Fishbowl Festival turns five in 2020 and we are hoping to make this year’s event the most diverse and exciting yet. The Fishbowl Festival is a celebration of community, food, culture and art and will run from Feb. 20 to March 20, 2020.

Unique in its community-sourced approach, The Fishbowl Festival showcases local Sault Ste Marie talent, ideas, and resources for a diverse month-long celebration that offers everything from dance parties to supper clubs, film screenings to pop-ups in a range of venues across the city.

The Fishbowl Festival strives to get folks to come out, meet their neighbours, participate and share ideas and talents. The Festival also works to present and promote safe(r) and more accessible spaces and events in our community. It is truly a festival by the city for the city.

Last year, The Fishbowl Festival hosted 25 events in 16 venues, engaged with over 30 artists and saw over 700 participants come out to enjoy all that was on offer. This year, we are hoping to grow the festival further by holding even more events and adding additional venues to our roster.

There are several ways to get involved in supporting The Fishbowl Festival:

Wanna organize and/or facilitate an event that relates to community, food, art, and/or culture during Fishbowl 2020? Send an email to [email protected] with your idea and we’ll see if we can support it with funding, logistic, and promotional assistance.

Indigenous, racialized, LBTQ2SA+, young and low-income folks, and people with disabilities, mental illness, addiction and substance use issues, as well as other individuals who have experienced systemic oppression and barriers to participation are highly encouraged to submit proposals. Priority will be given to these folks and given labour, time, and funding, efforts will be made to mitigate, if not remove barriers for these individuals.

  • Donate funds to The Fishbowl Fest 2020
    • This will allow artists and event facilitators to be compensated for time/ materials, enable materials to be purchased, pay for and marketing expenses, and support child care and other accessibility costs. https://www.gofundme.com/f/fishbowl-festival-2020
  • Donate a space to Fishbowl
    • Do you have access to a space that would make a great venue for the festival? A space that would be ideal for live music, an art event, a meal or a market…? We’d love to hear about it and try to make it worth your while to let us use it.
  • Participate in Fishbowl Festival events
    • We’ll be announcing festival events and information on passes and pricing starting in January so please stay tuned to fishbowlfest.ca and our social media for updates. There will be lots going on for all ages between Feb. 20 and March 20, 2020
