Everyone's invited to celebrate a Celtic Family Christmas

The Algoma Arts Festival Association is pleased to announce the award-winning fiddle virtuosos Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy will be performing in Sault Ste. Marie on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Sault Community Theatre Centre in an intimate and unique Christmas concert accompanied by an incredible array of talented session musicians and their entire family.

A Celtic Family Christmas is full of riveting performances by Natalie, Donnell and their children bringing the Cape Breton Christmas to the Sault. Through a mix of song and dance, they tell the story of the night before Christmas in the Leahy/MacMaster household with a lineup of familiar Christmas songs intermingled with classic Celtic songs sure to warm your heart during the festive season.

“We are excited to bring Natalie and Donnell back to the Sault for a special Christmas performance that will be a delight for your entire family,” said Rosetta Sicoli, president of the Algoma Arts Festival Association.

This special concert is being presented by the Algoma Arts Festival Association who also present the Algoma Fall Festival. In this 46th season, there is a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the first box car trip to Algoma by several members of the Group of Seven along with Canadian Icons including Sharon and Bram, Mary Walsh, author Mark Sakamoto with journalist Jeanne Beker and Ashley MacIsaac.

In the fall of 1918, Lawren Harris, J.E.H. MacDonald and Franz Johnston, along with their patron and friend Dr. MacCallum, came to Algoma to sketch and paint on their first box car trip along the Algoma Central Railway. Algoma Discovered, which opened Wednesday at the Art Gallery of Algoma, features pieces of their permanent collection of the Group of Seven along with many original pieces from private and public collections never before presented in Sault Ste. Marie with works by each of the Group of Seven artists. The exhibition runs through Nov. 24.

Sharon and Bram take the stage on Oct. 6 for a final farewell with a sing-along concert for the whole family. Soulpepper Theatre will perform The 27 Club on Oct. 12 with songs from great musicians like Amy Winehouse and Jimi Hendrix who tragically left us at the age of 27. On Oct. 14, journalist Jeanne Beker will chat with author Mark Sakamoto about his family memoire Forgiveness, winner of CBC Canada Reads 2018. Canadian comedic icon Mary Walsh will perform some of her best comedic bits and most popular characters on Nov. 1.
