Rolling Pictures is set to launch an art series, Art XIII Many Hats, highlighting the many hats mothers and artists both wear in their daily lives, the company announced in a news release issued today.

Opening Aug. 21 at 6 p.m., the event series, curated by local artist/mother Annie King and produced by Robert Peace, "aims to put a spotlight on the incredible, creative works of artists and mothers both in the past and present," the release states.

Multitudes, the first event, is to be held at 180 Projects. The second event, Many Hats, is held at Rolling Pictures and Mother Maker, the third event, will be located at the Sault Ste. Marie Museum.

Tickets for Many Hats are free and available here

“We are once again thrilled that the arts community has come together to put on this wonderful exhibit,” says Rolling Pictures Community Relations Director Robert Peace. We love to invite the public to enjoy art in our post production studios as people get to know all the arts the Soo has to offer.”

The full release is as follows:

Mothers and artists wear many hats, they have many rolls and are always in a state of flux. To say an artist/mother is a multi-tasker is an understatement. However, to be an artist/mother is truly void of definition. In each of the exhibitions, I want to highlight the artist in whatever state they choose to present themselves. Giving space for artists who wish to speak directly to their intersecting relationship between art and motherhood, as well as to artists whose creative work and maternal identity run parallel.

Rolling Picture's Art XIII 'Many Hats' is one of three events in a trifecta of artist/mother events curated by local artist/mother Annie King and produced by Robert Peace. These events aim to put a spotlight on the incredible, creative works of artists and mothers both in the past and present. Art X events feature short biographical videos of each artist, live entertainment and refreshments.

Annie King, local artist, professor and mother of three explains, “The first event, 'Multitudes' is an art exhibition at 180 Projects, including the works of many national and international artists. The second event, 'Many Hats' is held at Rolling Pictures in their third instalment of Art X and features three incredible local artists, Goldie Barzan, Lora Caswell and Samm Pine-Bennet, who are successfully creating while juggling their numerous roles in motherhood, says King. The third event, 'Mother Maker', is located at the Sault Ste. Marie Museum taking a historical perspective of maternal makers from their own collection.”

Events at all three locations will open Aug. 21 at 6 p.m.. For those that want to participate in the guided walk by curator Annie King, please email [email protected] to receive a spot, limited to 20 participants. Masks will be required for the tour. The walk will begin at the Sault Ste. Marie Museum at 6 p.m. then to Rolling Pictures and finish at 180 Projects.

Tickets for Many Hats are free and available online. Rolling Pictures is located at 498 Queen St. E. The event is cosponsored by the Downtown Association and Future SSM.
