Dial M for Murder has outstanding stage history

Exciting melodrama… suspense… elicits gasps… 60 years… ability to enthrall.

It’s quite clear from the numerous play reviews that Dial M For Murder has been entertaining audiences for a very long time.

Longevity is truly a rare playwright achievement and Frederick Knott’s Dial M For Murder can boast about its successful stage history.

As www.dramatists.com states: "This exciting melodrama had a highly successful run on Broadway and the road. "

"…original and remarkably good theatre - quiet in style but tingling with excitement underneath." - NY Times.

"It's a holiday for the whodunit fans, and, as such, it couldn't be more welcome." - NY Herald-Tribune.

Lisa Brock, writer for the Star Tribune, wrote: "Dial M for Murder is a high-wire act of a play, offering a blend of suspense and consummate technique that has elicited gasps of astonishment from audiences for 60 years  ...beyond a shadow of a doubt that this old standard retains its ability to enthrall."

She continues, “This tale of a murder plot gone awry isn't your average mystery. Playwright Frederick Knott makes it quite clear in the first act that handsome ne'er-do-well Tony Wendice intends to get away with the 'perfect' murder of his wealthy wife, Margot. But when the accomplice he's blackmailed into doing the deed ends up getting killed instead, impaled on Margot's scissors, Tony is forced to improvise, then improvise again, juggling clues and evidence like tennis balls. It's his audaciously brilliant ability to plot under pressure that's the hook in this play.”

Jim Taylor, a Rudyard High School English and drama teacher, is the director for Soo Theatre Project’s Dial M For Murder this June.

He says: "This show has so many levels of excitement involved in it. And, my actors are incredible at finding each of those levels and bringing them out. I could not be more pleased with the level of professionalism each one has brought to this show. Every night at rehearsal, something new is discovered, which is keeping the show fresh and the individual acting energies high. This production is going to rock."

These professional, enthusiastic actors whom Director Jim Taylor references are: Susan Kirkman, John Toon, Seth Witucki, Carl Morrison, and Mark SanAngelo.

Dial M For Murder will be performed Thursday, June 12, Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, June 15 at 2 p.m.
