SUSAN BARBER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Quin will be home for Thanksgiving next weekend… tell him “Congrats!” and give him a pat on the back…

In August of last year, Sault Ste. Marie lost Susan Barber, a dynamic creator and supporter of the arts. In order to honour Susan’s memory, spirit, and talents, the Susan Barber Memorial Scholarship was awarded for the first time this year to White Pines graduate, Quinlan Green in June 2017.

Aubrey Falls, Susan’s husband, was so pleased to award the scholarship to Quin as he continues his studies in the Performance Creation and Acting (BFA) at Concordia University in Montreal this fall. Quin truly embraces Sue’s love and commitment to the performing arts and to sharing them with the community. He developed his love of theatre while working with director Sue in productions of Chicago, Spam-a-Lot, Company, and West Side Story. Quin describes Ms. Barber as a “one-of-a-kind artist in this city, who was beyond inspirational to witness, and an absolute blessing to have worked with.”

Susan Barber’s loyalty, energy, kindness, respect, friendship, acceptance, and her passion for bringing people together made life more meaningful and fun for all who knew her.

She was a beloved, dedicated and inspiring teacher at White Pines Collegiate. Her gifts as a teacher are legendary. Her students found inspiration, a safe space and a mentor within her classroom.

In the community at large, Susan Barber graciously gave of herself and her talents in stage direction, music direction and accompaniment, acting, writing, and performance. Many charitable organizations, White Pines OnStage and all theatre companies in our community, as well as her own baby, Shot in the Dark Productions, benefited from her generosity and tireless work through the years. We miss her!
