New exhibition at the Art Gallery of Algoma marks the 25th anniversary of the Quilt Guild

The Art Gallery of Algoma (AGA) presents the exhibition Splendor of Thread and Fabric, Public opening is on Dec. 15, 2017 at 7 p.m.. Members of the Quilt Guild will be in attendance.

This exhibition marks 25th anniversary of the Quilt Guild. It depicts a cross section of different styles and techniques that are used by the very talented members of the Quilt Guild. Over 20 members of the Quilt Guild are represented in the exhibition.

The exhibition highlights some original designs of quilts, traditional quilts, as well as objects, and clothing items. All of them have a few things in common – splendor of colours, superb technique and obvious love for working with fabric and thread. Thematically quilts in the exhibition range from abstract to quilts inspired by paintings to quilts depicting Canada and its beautiful nature, birds, cats, environmental concerns and many more subjects! The quilts span from traditional quilts to a very unique and creative works. It is amazing to see how beautiful works of art can be created using fabric as a medium!

The AGA is proud to celebrate achievements of the Quilt Guild members over the 25 years and enormous talent that we have in our community! These pieces are hidden treasures that have not been seen by many people. This exhibition provides an opportunity for the community to join us in celebrating them!

This is the first exhibition of the members of the Quilt Guild at the AGA. The Splendor of Thread and Fabric exhibition will be on display in the Main Gallery at the Art Gallery of Algoma from Dec. 16, 2017 – Jan. 20, 2018.
