World of Comedy Film Festival accepting entries for fifth annual event from March 7-11, 2007 in Toronto

Hit fest now accepting comedy feature films and shorts until November 15, 2006

It's time again to bring on the laughter!

The World of Comedy Film Festival is accepting feature film and shorts entries for the fifth annual entertainment event in Toronto from March 7-11, 2007.

Entries must be received by November 15, 2006.

Launched in 2003, the World of Comedy Film Festival is dedicated to presenting a feast of comedy film from around the world.

Over the past four festivals, enthusiastic audiences have screened over 225 comedy films including many world, North American and Canadian premieres by both celebrated, established filmmakers and emerging new talent.

The festival is accepting submissions for both features and shorts in the following categories: narrative, animation, mockumentary, experimental and documentaries about comedy and/or personalities involved in comedic filmmaking.

The 2007 Festival will present juried awards in various categories, as well as an Audience Choice Award.

Encouraged by its continuing growth and success, World of Comedy Film Festival Director Carla Nolan says the event will continue to showcase the works of emerging Canadian and Iinternational comedic filmmaking talent working in the genre, as well as a selection of comedy classics. "Now more than ever, we can all use more comedy and laughter in our lives. This festival affords one of the best opportunities for young comedy filmmakers to gain profile and exposure in a forum designed especially for this purpose. We are excited to see the diversity and artistry in this genre. From romantic comedies to the experimental to the outrageous, satirical, dark and offbeat, the WCFF promises a feast of the hilarious."

The World of Comedy Film Festival has gained a strong reputation in the film, television and comedy communities as an important festival for showcasing new comedy films.

Filmmakers from Australia, the UK, the US, Europe and from across Canada are have attended the festival with their films.

International festival favorites screened include: the Canadian premiere of the Australian animation hit Harvie Krumpet which went on to win the 2004 Academy Award for Best Animation Short, celebrated animator Bill Plympton’s 2005 Academy Award-nominated short The Guard Dog, North American premieres of shorts from the U.K's Aardman Animation (production home of Wallace and Gromit) and films featuring celebrities such as Ron Howard, Matthew Perry, Jon Cryer, Lorraine Bracco and Our Time is Up, the 2006 Academy Award-nominated live-action short starring Kevin Pollack.

Broadcasters, distributors and respected international festivals have picked up films screened at the WCFF.

In addition to the film program, the 2007 Festival will again offer a professional development series featuring an impressive line-up of panels and workshops designed to provide opportunities for comedy filmmakers to further their filmmaking skills and to meet industry professionals.

The World of Comedy Film Festival is a non-profit organization created to celebrate the artistry and power of comedy films.
