Owners at The Steamy Bean on Great Northern Road are on a mission to encourage young musicians, challenge their abilities, and provide them a place to perform.

The Budding Young Artists Initiative recognizes that the Sault has some great up-and-coming artists, as well as seasoned performers, and provides them a place to develop their skills and talents while gaining live performance experience.

The initiative allows novice performers to show off their stuff as an 'opening act' for more seasoned performers. After a quick apprenticeship as an opening act, the young performers can prove that they are ready to become the main attraction.

Case and point is a young band known as Rock on Wood. These three high school students have played at the Steamy Bean a number of times as the opening act for Startlefish, Flipside and a number of other local acts. On Sunday, October 10th, Rock on Wood will be performing a full night on their own for the first time with over two hours of material, including a handful of their own originals.

On Sunday and Monday, October 17th and 18th, budding artists Second Guess, will be opening for established local folkie, Bill Webb.

The Steamy Bean's October Music Schedule:

October 3rd and 4th: The Acousticats
October 10th: Rock on Wood
October 17th and 18th: Bill Webb
October 24th and 25th: Buck 'N Doc

The Steamy Bean (located next to Staples on Great Northern Road) has a wide selection of coffee, baked goods, snacks, meals, and is fully licensed. For more information on The Steamy Bean or their 'Budding Young Artists' initiative, contact Paulette at (705)253-9690.
